How would restrict the New! tag (attribute) when you add a new entry to announcements, to events, to lists or to links on your SharePoint Portal? By default, the new! tag will appear for 2 days after a item is created. A lot of people ask this question and there are two ways of doing this.
1. Set the -pn days-to-show-new-icon property to 0 -> stsadm.exe -o setproperty -pn days-to-show-new-icon -pv 0 -url 'http://shopsharepoint.com/' - Remember, this will set this property for the entire site and you wont see the new! tag at all.
2. Just in case, if you want to do it for a particular list for some reason, then try avoiding the first method and write a two liner for modifying the Created Date of the list items in that particular list.
